After playing guitar in a band in the Washington D.C. area in the mid-60s, playing mostly “British Invasion” music, it was “basement jamming” into the early ’70s. The guitars were then packed away, not touched for 40+ years. I was consumed with my career as a home builder/designer/carpenter (and my passion for fishing!) in the historic Chesapeake Bay town of Reedville, VA. But I always knew after retirement that music would somehow again become my passion. Little did I know what was about to happen.

 

I moved to Florida in late 2011, dusted off my guitars, and in 2015, I started getting together weekly with Joe Hastings, who I have known for over 50 years. The music began sounding good, and in early 2017 we became the duo "Front Porch Blues". We enjoyed great success together, playing locally at the Tiki Bar & Grill, Pareidolia Brewing Co., Crab Stop of Sebastian, Summer Crush Winery, Manatee Island Bar & Grill, and the Black Box Theater in Ft. Pierce, Fl. We topped it all off by winning the Treasure Coast Blues Society's Regional International Blues Challenge Challenge (IBC) in September of 2019. We then represented the TCBS at the International Blues Challenge on Beale Street in Memphis, playing at the King's Palace in January of 2020. After that, we had the honor to be the opening act on Sunday at the first Vero Beach Blues Festival in February 2022.

Then it was time for me to start performing solo. It is the music of Taj Mahal, Keb Mo, Mississippi John Hurt, Jorma Kaukonen (Hot Tuna), John Prine, Lightnin' Hopkins, Eric Bibb, David Bromberg, and others  that inspires my music. That music is “a good story to tell with a finger pickin' guitar!”

 

And special thanks to Pete and Lynn Anderson, owners of Pareidolia Brewing Company of Sebastian, Florida, and Ellis and Brandy Buckner, owners of The Crab Stop of Sebastian, for giving me my first opportunities to perform solo at their fine establishments. They are the two best supporters of local musicians and live music.
